17 weeks, busy busy busy!

My post is very late, this week has been crazy! and i am sure i will post late next week also.

So what we did this week... well kaya and i spent the mornings together accomplishing small chores and exercising in gorgeous weather. i worked 3-11pm monday-friday so i had every morning to myself. It was nice to have the time to get some small stuff done and work with the monster bear on her doggy fence. Brad installed an electric dog fence last weekend and we have been working on training the monster every day. She has had 2 minor escapes (both from the same place) but overall has learned her yard and actually did incredibly well! Heres some pics from my week of bonding with the dog.

Our run at Weyerhauser

 Dog Park!

Okay now on to big projects of the week!
I am almost finished with our downstairs end tables!
We mowed both the front and back lawns!

And the biggest of them all, we planted a side yard, built garden boxes and started the garden. All of this was done with much help from my dad, jojo, devon, and sam. And of course Duke (sams dog) he helped by keeping kaya very entertained in the house, which i am thankful for because we had a tired puppy to relax with tired humans in the evening! Pics from the projects!

And as you can see we were very busy. So i didnt do my weekly photo, the best i have for ya'll this week is a photo that i snapped as i walked by a mirror in fred meyers because i thought to myself maybe im starting to show more than i think i am. I promise a weekly photo next week!

16 weeks!

Well i decided that we need a new chalkboard!! This one is a corkboard that i converted into a chalkboard with some paint. Maybe making a new chalkboard will be my project for next week!

Time is going by so fast. It seems like weeks just fly by around here. We are busy busy with lots of events, busy work schedules, and a multitude of home improvement projects. Nesting/ preparing for baby has me on a timeline to get some stuff done this spring/summer so it feels like all of our time off is spent either working towards accomplishing some goals around the house or going to functions with family/ friends. It is going to be one busy summer this year!

In the past week we had visitors at the house, which was fun. Completed multiple projects around the home. I finally finished my end tables for downstairs (just waiting for brad to stain and polyurethane). We installed a pantry. Installed a shelf downstairs. And did some yard work, well brad did yardwork. He pulled out blackberry vines roots and all. Blackberries used to grow like a forest at this house and i think it will take a consistent effort for a a few more years to erradicate them. It doesnt help that the neighbor has a blackberry farm that is encroaching our yard (we may have accidently had some overspray splash onto those bushes when we sprayed the ones in our yard). Call us horrible people, but if you have seen the trailer parked in the neighbors back yard and the trees falling down/blackberries everywhere it is pretty clear that they dont care about much.

Anyways, thats enough about projects.

My pregnancy is still going well. Ive been lucky to have things go smoothly so far. We had a check up this week and all appears well. the heartbeat was strong as usual and we will have our next check up at the big ultrasound in May.

Here are the weekly stats!

How many weeks: 16 weeks and 3 days
This week our baby is the size of an......Orange! a very large orange. About 5 inches, the little monster grew a whole inch last week!
This week our baby weighs..... about 3 and 1/2 ounces. He/She gained a whole ounce last week!!!
This week our baby can...HEAR!! its still primitive hearing but hearing nonetheless. Time to break out some baby books! daddy says he wont read to baby until he knows the sex. I think he wants to start grooming the child to be a sports fan prior to birth and needs to know how to appropriately address the issue prior to starting his persuasions. This week baby is also growing toenails and is able to hiccup!
Boy or girl? We made the appointment for the ultrasound this week. Baby Gochnauer's sex will be seen on May 13th... now just to hope that legs aren't crossed.
Total weight gain/ loss: +4-6 ish. im going to stop sharing my weight gain at some point.
Showing: yeah, just a  little bit, although it really just looks like im gaining wait Ill be excited to look actually pregnant in a few months.
Maternity Clothes: Nope, not yet getting closer though!
Best moment this week: One of my favorite moments this week was when brad texted me some completely off the wall names, they were atrocious. It was fun to find the comedy in them. Another great moment was hearing babies heartbeat together for the first time! We had a check up on monday and brad got to hear the little nugget for his first time. At this appointment i was also reassured that i am feeling movement (flutters) because she found the babies heartbeat right in the location where i have been feeling little flutters. It made me feel like i wasn't just crazy.
Have you told family/ friends: not everyone, i am sure the word is spreading faster than i know though.
Food cravings: I don't really have cravings anymore.
Miss anything?: Sushi!!everything else i have seemed to find an adequate substitute for but nothing can replace sushi!
Anything making you sick: Not much anymore, i ate broccoli this week! yay!
Pregnancy symptoms: same old stuff as last week, nothing really new.
Movement: Flutters :-)
Gender prediction: We both really just want a healthy baby but if i had to predict i would say Boy!!! Brad thinks girl, just because that is what his whole family is rooting for and he really secretly wants a boy so he thinks it will be a girl since he wants a boy :-)
We call our baby: little monster, baby, NUGGET. A good friend at work started asking me how the nugget was doing and it stuck. We constantly refer to baby as nugget now. Its pretty cute..
Looking forward to:  Kathryn Duke 's Bridal Shower!
Soon to be daddy is....  trying to get the yard ready for kaya monster and nugget! Kaya gets a doggy fence this week, yay! And next week we fix our grass and cut down some trees. Spring is here in full force!

15 Weeks!!

Well we have made it through yet another busy week. It seems like time is flying by. It was 9 weeks ago that we found out about the little monster and the weeks have just gone by like crazy.

Last week was another busy one. I finished my last week on night shift, totally one month. I will miss the night shift crew but i am happy to be back on a day shift schedule. I find myself to be a completely useless unproductive person when i work night shift. We also celebrated the marriage of my cousin Katie. It was a gorgeous wedding with a huge attendance. I think 600+ people were there! We had a lot of fun and it was nice to see the family. My nephews and niece of course stole the show, they always seems to steal all of our attention every time we see them. Which i will not at all complain about. Kindle has really taken to Brad in the last few weeks and has started saying his name as well as syla. So of course we are both totally in love with her adorable little personality and it has been amazing to watch her grow. We have been fortunate to see them two weeks in a row and it was definitely worth the commute both times.

The boys being silly at the wedding

On to news for the babyfront...

How many weeks: 15
This week our baby is the size of an......Apple! About 4 inches, the little monster grew a half inch last week!
This week our baby weighs..... about 2 and 1/2 ounces. He/She gained a whole ounce last week!!!
This week our baby can...Sense light, although the eyelids will stay closed until 28 weeks. Babies taste buds are developing on its tongue this week! And, if we had an ultrasound the sex could be easily determined at this point!!
Boy or girl? We made the appointment for the ultrasound this week. Baby Gochnauer's sex will be seen on May 13th... now just to hope that legs arent crossed.
Total weight gain/ loss: +3
Showing: Maybe just a tiny little bit, people at the wedding said that they thought i was starting to show.
Maternity Clothes: Nope, not yet.
Best moment this week: My favorite moment this week was the conversation that brad and i has with Eli. We were discussing the baby inside aunties tummy and he was very excited to hear that the baby is 4 inches long. He also asked me if the baby would be born on his birthday (september 25th) and was completely bewildered by the concept that babies come "when they want to". I think that was a little confusing to him but the curiosity was pretty cute.
Have you told family/ friends: not everyone, i am sure the word is spreading faster than i know though.
Food cravings: Sushi/seafood!
Miss anything?: Sushi!!everything else i have seemed to find an adequate substitute for but nothing can replace sushi!
Anything making you sick: Still Steamed broccoli! the smell makes me want to vomit.
Pregnancy symptoms: same old stuff as last week, nothing really new.
Movement: I've felt something going on in there a few times but its hard to tell if its gas or flutters or who knows, id like to think its baby flutters though :-)
Gender prediction: We both really just want a healthy baby but if i had to predict i would say Boy!!! Brad thinks girl, just because that is what his whole family is rooting for and he really secretly wants a boy so he thinks it will be a girl since he wants a boy :-)
We call our baby: little monster, baby, we haven't really chosen an endearing term yet..
Looking forward to:  working day shift! and having Brads sister and her family over this weekend!
Soon to be daddy is.... excited that he can tell im pregnant!

Until Next Week,
Shyla

14 weeks, Second Trimester!

Yet another busy week in the Gochnauer household! Wedding/event season is upon us and in full force in the next few weeks. The highlight of last weeks business was a very rewarding trip to oregon where we spent time with family and friends. I went wedding dress shopping with best friends from college, and we found a gorgeous dress for my beautiful friend Sam. We also said goodbye for now to Jessica who will be returning to afghanistan next week. And... we even celebrated easter with the family. All of this in just two busy days!

So on the pregnancy homefront. Baby is growing bigger by the week and seems to be doing well, i had a brief visit at the doctor last week and heard the little monsters heartbeat another time. The heartbeat was a strong and loud 157 beats per minutes, which is a perfect rate for a little one at this time during pregnancy.

And another highlight of this week, Brad and i are halfway down the road to choosing a name!!! We have selected a possible boy name and will start looking into girl names in the next few weeks. We have plenty of time but for all of you who have discussed baby naming with me i am sure you understand that us having even one possible option this soon is a big accomplishment!

And this is what baby center says our baby looks like this week!!

Baby, fetus at 14 weeks - BabyCenter

How many weeks: 14 and 2  days

Boy or girl? We made the appointment for the ultrasound this week. Baby Gochnauer's sex will be seen on May 13th... now just to hope that legs arent crossed.
Total weight gain/ loss: still only +2
Showing: I dont really feel like i am, however in the pictures (which i took in a very tight fitting shirt) you can clearly see that there is a start so we will get there someday.
Maternity Clothes: Nope, not yet.
Best moment this week: I kind of preemptively started a baby registry, i know it was way too early and i will not tell anyone where this baby registry is started at but i couldn't contain my excitement! Also, i told the housekeeper who works on my nursing unit at work this week. She is a wonderful sweet woman who adores children and babies. She has been telling me for 6 months that i need to have a baby and she was elated, she cant contain her excitement and loves to smile at me every time she sees me. It is very rewarding to be surrounded by positive kind hearted women like her who truly enjoying the beauty of children and it brings happiness to my heart to see her genuine happiness at the news of a new life.
Have you told family/ friends: not everyone, i am sure the word is spreading faster than i know though.
Food cravings: strawberries, sweets ( any kind of sweet food), still spicy foods, and new to the list this week pickled asparagus and pickles! I find these cravings to be really odd, i mean sweets are a given i have always had a sweet tooth however i do not like spicy food and this baby LOVES it these days!
Miss anything?: Sushi!!everything else i have seemed to find an adequate substitute for but nothing can replace sushi!
Anything making you sick: Still Steamed broccoli! the smell makes me want to vomit.
Pregnancy symptoms: Tired, but less so than before. Pregnancy brain which is also improving. Feel like my bladder is always full, i have a long road ahead if i already feel that way....
Looking forward to: My cousins wedding this upcoming weekend! it will be nice to see the family.
Soon to be daddy is.... getting really excited about being a daddy, and made progress on the baby naming! This week he has also been very supportive in assisting me with some projects around the house and i am very grateful for that. We hung a coat rack/shelf in the entry way and finished the staining/polyurethane on shelves we will be putting up in our living room. Im sure ill post pictures to facebook soon.

Until Next Week,
Shyla
