18 weeks

We have lived yet another great Hawaiian week. On sunday we celebrated our final days with the family by having a little BBQ at Hickam Beach. Adrienne of course loved it, and i think everyone else did too. We managed to avoid jellyfish while swimming in the ocean, take a short nap on the beach, and watch a beautiful Hawaiian sunset! I think the family enjoyed their final sunset the most and Adrienne thoroughly enjoyed swimming with her grandma, papa, and aunt deffi (Lisa's sister Debbie). We said goodbye on monday and the mornings since have been filled with a little girl searching for her grandma, papa, and debbie on a daily basis. She seems to understand they had to go home but was definitely sad the first few mornings when she couldn't wake up an entire house of eager participants in her little game of "hey look at me I'm your ridiculously cute granddaughter/ niece".

Since the families departure we have been focusing on cleaning/ organizing the house, going to work, and finishing my paper (which is almost done). We look forward to a fun weekend off together surely filled with a beach trip at adriennes daily request. She has started to attempt to direct my driving away from daycare/ home towards the ocean by telling me "no mommy, turnaround, we go beach!". Cute little bossy sassy pants girl.

Well heres our weekly stats...

This week baby is...... about 5 1/2 inches long from head to bottom but it's a gochnauer baby so if this one is anything like adrienne its definitely taller.
This week our baby weighs..... 7 ounces! our food size comparison this week says bell pepper
This week  baby... apparently is busy flexing its arms and legs all the time. I guess this correlates with my body because i feel like i have started to feel daily movements this week.
Boy or girl? we will find out officially on the 29th but of course we keep trying to guess. We took a sneak peek to try to find a gender on the 9th of JAN. We may have shared the prediction with a few of you but want to wait for the big announcement until after the anatomy scan just to be sure.
Total weight gain/ loss: +10 ish, i think i should remove this portion for my sanity in the future.
Showing: yeah, sometimes, i think. It depends on what i wear and how much I've eaten but most of the time I'm showing. A few ladies at work today said they could see my little belly and I'm starting to feel like it gets in the way of me squeezing through tight places...
Maternity Clothes: Ive learned that with the second maternity clothes are just way better than anything else. So if I'm not wearing yoga pants i wear maternity pants because who doesn't want to be more comfortable?
Best moment this week: i think our best moments of the past week were simply spending time with family. It is also crazy having visitors and definitely busy but the memories that we create especially the lasting memories that adrienne is building with her grandparents are special and very valuable.
Food cravings: chicken salad sandwiches, pickles, who knows what else.
Miss anything?: Sushi!! beer and wine! Poke.... essentially anything raw fish. I also miss my pre-pregnancy workout intensity capabilities but thats only going to get worse so we will learn to embrace it. This pregnancy i have decided to fight away excess weight gain by doing crossfit and am so far loving it, I've have concisely replaced my running with crossfit for the past month or so and plan to continue this routine as long as my body allows. I actually feel better when I'm working out than when I'm not, so probably more to come on that in the future.
Anything making you sick: nope
Gender prediction: I want to say i think its a boy because we hope we can have a boy at some point but if i was to predict i would play it safe and say girl. Prove me wrong little fetus!
We call our baby:  We say baby a lot so big sister can embrace the concept of a baby in the future. Brad also calls it rainbow sparkles which generated from wanting to have something to sign christmas presents with.
Looking forward to: The anatomy scan on the 29th so we can see that we have a healthy baby and hopefully figure out a gender.

Until Next Week,
Shyla, Brad, Adrienne, and Rainbow Sparkles

After oh about 1 year and 8 months of not blogging we are back at it. I have decided based on requests that i will attempt to maintain the blog through this pregnancy and maybe do better with posting about the family next time.

So we found out in October that were were expecting baby number 2.. and since then its been a rollercoaster of crazy, busy, life.

I am not exactly sure what led us to the decision to finally try for a baby number 2 but we probably a little bit spontaneously decided that september was the month, and of course surrounded by love and living in the ignorant bliss of vacation in Oregon we conceived this child. Despite being prepared in making our decision to have a second baby this pregnancy so far has been so different. Ive realized that all the things i cared about being careful with with the first one i don't have time to care about anymore so we constantly are going with the flow and just making things worse. In addition, this child decided to make my first trimester harder then the last so we fought the nausea battle for about 14 weeks, which i didn't expect would be as terrible as it was but when chasing a 2 year old everything is always harder to cope with. So, here we are on this adventure.

Being pregnant the second time feels roughly the same as the first except the belly grows faster, the weeks fly by, and i have zero time to focus on preparations. I think we already had a crib picked out and a nursery in the works at this point with adrienne... oh and we definitely had names in the works. This time i will be surprised if we buy a crib before the third trimester and pick out a name before we are discharged from the hospital. Because thats how it rolls with a 2 year old in the house. lol.

Anyways, enough about me.

Many of you are probably wondering what Adrienne thinks if anything about the pending addition. Well, i think she is starting to get it. She will kiss my belly everytime we tell her a baby is in it which is cute. She also has been mothering her baby dolls which we got her for christmas. She is super attached to these things, feeds them, sleeps with them, i usually find her spooning with one if i check on her in the middle of the night. So, if these are any indicators of how she will be as a big sister i think we are in for some good luck. But i am sure we will face our own struggles with a little bit of jealousy and frustration with something consuming her mommy's time.

How many weeks: 17 weeks and 5 days

These photos were taken at 15+ weeks in maui but they serve the purpose...
