Adrienne Elizabeth is 1 month old!

We set up some one month photos of our own and i couldnt just choose one, so i chose 4 to share!

Well the first month of parenthood has been very very busy! the first couple of weeks were an adjustment but we have since settled in. Our house has been full of visitors, which is wonderful and we made our first trip to Oregon this last weekend.  So heres some highlights of what we have been doing.

We took a trip to Bernett farms in Scappoose, OR to walk around and take some fall pictures of our little punkin!
She wasnt super pleased in this photo!
Looking cozy laying in all the pumpkins!
A couple little family photos.

And this was brad making fun of her. she wasnt happy that her hat fell down over her eyes!
Thank you to Grandma Lisa for buying her cute little pumpkin hat and pants. They were the perfect clothes for visiting the pumpkin patch for the first time! And a huge thanks to Auntie Ali for taking our pictures.

We have had visits from friends as well as family, Tom and Rikki stopped by to meet Adrienne and we got a photo of Uncle Tom and Adrienne. Apparently he doesnt hold babies very often so this may be a special photo :-)
 Snuggling with my Daddy!
Showing off his new glasses and Adriennes cute skirt on her one month birthday!!
So i bought this outfit as a very special going home from the hospital outfit and decided that i wanted to get some more use out of it. So she wore this to Oregon to visit the family and it is adorable! I am very happy that i got it!

Adrienne meeting Katelynn for the first time! Katelynn was very distracted by the TV and really confused with why 5 people started taking pictures of her!
In one month Adrienne has met all but two of her grandparents. she has 3 grandmas, 2 grandpas, 3 sets of great grandparents and a great grandpa on brads side. And 2 great great grandmas!! Its a big accomplishment that we have met all but two so far! Here is a 5 generation picture. Me, my mom teresa, Adrienne, Great Great Grandma June Rose, and Great Grandma Teddy.

And some cute moments that we have captured!

In one month we have accomplished a lot. Adrienne is a wonderful baby, she sleeps and eats as well as you could expect a baby to. We have progressed to sleeping in the crib and momma loves it!! i sleep so much better without her in our bedroom. Kaya is reluctantly adjusting to the baby. And Adrienne is growing fast, She has gained more than 2 pounds from her lowest weight, grown 1.5 inches in legth, and 2 inches in head circumfrence. She is much more awake now enjoys tummy time and looking at faces. she has started sleeping a little bit longer at night and we have started bottle feeding every now and then. We wanted to wait one month to introduce a bottle to make sure we had a good breastfeeding relationship. So on her one month birthday daddy gave her her first bottle of breastmilk and she did very well! I am thankful that she has done well transitioning between the bottle and breastfeeding because we need her to do both when i go back to work.

Until next time,
Shyla, Brad, and Adrienne

Adrienne is 1 week old!

Adrienne turned 1 week old on Sunday September 29th! We celebrated by relaxing at home with a happy baby!

So we summarized the first 2 days in the previous post. We can pick up where we left off.
We took Adrienne home after a very exhausting 2 days in the hospital! It was wonderful, we felt more rested sleeping at home on our comfy couches and bed and had an overall good first night with baby. We had to go back to the hospital for a weight and jaundice check the next day... And we got readmitted.
So we spent days 3 and 4 back in the hospital under bili lights, and i would be lying if i said it wasnt dissapointing.
Getting readmitted was a sad experience, it was the first time that i broke down. Its overhwhelming to take your baby home and have a wonderful night and then come back to the hospital where you know you will have an angry baby and no sleep all night... Thankfully it was just one night and we survived!
Adrienne under the lights

So after our hospital journey ended at day 4 we had a visit from grandpa curt and grandma JoJo to look forward to as well as meeting lots of family on saturday at Ron and Annettes house.
Enjoying the diaper messages that people wrote for us at the baby shower: this has been a lot of fun, it is fun to read the diapers in the middle of the night/ and even during the day  and see what people have to say. The diapers were supposed to be middle of the night only, but we had a limited supply of newborn diapers and wanted to use all of them before we went to 1s so we have gotten daytime and nighttime messages.

Brad wrote us some wonderful welcome home messages on all the chalkboards and whiteboards. And we got a beautiful flower arrangement from our friend Jessica! We came home the first time to wild flowers from the sauerkraut festival in scappoose so ended up with 2 very gorgeous boquets.
And this quilt showed up on our doorstep from a lovely lady in scappoose! We love it!

 Meeting Grandpa Curt!

And my first bath!!!

Meeting my family at Auntie Annettes!

Adrienne Elizabeth has Arrived!

Well the day finally came! After what felt like a very quick 9 months (aside from the last few weeks) we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl on September 22nd!
Adrienne was born at 38 weeks and 6 days. She weighed 8lb 1 oz and was 20.5 inches long!
She came out big, healthy, and screaming and looked just like her daddy!

So a little story about how she was born... in the last few days before her birth we discovered that i had developed Gestational Hypertension (not a surprise since i worked until the very end). Typically this diagnosis can  be grounds for an induction before 39 weeks. We didnt want to have an induction if it was at all possible to avoid.
On Saturday the 21st i started going into early labor and coincidentally i had an appointment/ check up that day. So we went in and had the check up, went home for a few more hours and then ended up going back in for an induction/augmentation later that day. Miss Adrienne didnt look super happy at the appointment in the morning so after some discussion we decided that it would be best to have a baby! and about 14 hours later she was born!
We were very well taken care of by our nurses and Doctors on labor and delivery and also later in the NICU and on 3s. A big thanks to my 3S ladies who made our stay comfortable. Especially Michele, Annie, Julietta, and Natalie who all took care of me very well (im sure i was their easiest patient of the shift) lol. I would have been a lot more work for them if they didnt let my husband stay the night, that was a huge help. Brad was wonderful and supportive the whole hospital stay, he walked to the NICU with me almost every trip and was a overall a huge help!
So.. NICU, lets talk about that. This little girl decided that it would be really fun to through us for a loop and aspirated some amniotic fluid on her way out. This earned us 48 hours of IV antibiotics, some respiratory support, and IV D10 (sugar water) all in the NICU. She was quite possibly the biggest, healthiest baby in the whole place towards the end of her stay but we started out a little rough.

Daddy holding for the first time in the NICU.
Mommy holding for the first time in the NICU.

I was super excited about her little hat!
Iron man baby! Brad loved this..

So a big thanks to Susan, Janelle,  Molly, and Misty for taking great care of us in the NICU. Susan is the mother of one of my friends and coworkers. She took very good care of us and helped to set us up for breastfeeding success. We are incredibly thankful for the time she spent caring for us on her very busy shift! Janelle took care of us 2 evenings in a row and was also amazing! Molly and Misty discharged us, so of course we love them because they let me take my baby home!

Taking baby home pictures!

So as you can see the name of our blog has changed... we are transitioning the blog because we have had many requests to keep it going. I make no promises for timeliness but we will try to update as often as we can.

Until Next Time,
Brad, Shyla, and Adrienne
